Clinical Orientation

Some clients come to therapy to address a specific issue; others come for a broader exploration. Together we will create a treatment plan that is effective for you.

My aim is to provide a warm, compassionate, and interactive setting where you can feel comfortable and validated. Furthermore, I believe that every person possesses a basic goodness and inner wisdom, and together we will work to clear away ineffective or unwanted behaviors so that you can access those elements more effectively. I strive to balance insight about the past with constructive, practical tools that can be used immediately in everyday life.

Therapy through an anti-racist/anti-oppression lens: Western medicine, including social work and mental health, was created and continues to operate in a racist and paternalistic structure. Because of this, I am committed to conducting psychotherapy through an anti-racist and anti-oppression framework. For me, this is defined by: 1) operating with an understanding that I will never be more of an expert on a client’s life than the client; 2) acknowledging the racist and paternalistic history of my profession; 3) engaging in ongoing scrutiny of my work to identify areas of bias and harm; and 4) conducting my practice with the aim of liberation for all people, rather than one of “helping.” Please visit the “contact me” section if you would like to discuss this further.
